Any individual with a disability living in Hillsborough County is eligible for the programs provided by Self Reliance. Families and Parents of children with disabilities may contact us as a resource center as you seek to provide independence or support for individuals with disabilities. Employers, Businesses, and Schools alike may contact us regarding disability sensitivity trainings, accommodation inquiries, or specific information about services for persons with disabilities. Rehabilitation and Therapy facilities may contact us regarding individual or group training for Independent Living Skills.  |
  Independent Living SkillsIndependent Living Skills - What does this include? Skills are taught to individuals or in group trainings in areas needed to assist you with living independent. Your goal may be budgeting, dressing for success, home management, computer keyboard skills, parenting, or operating new equipment.  Peer Support and MentoringPeer Support & Mentoring - What is this? Talking to a person with a disability who can understand and encourage you in your decision-making and quest for independence; creating meaningful linkages with other people. Self Reliance host a bi-monthly Peer Support program called STEP. Call 813-375-3965 for details. Advocacy Advocacy - What does this mean? This program teaches self advocacy, legal advocacy, and systems advocacy. You will learn about your civil rights and how to stand up for them. This program allows participation in improving your community through legislative advocacy. Information & Referral Information & Referral - How can this help? You will learn about community resources and what services are available in your area. Self Reliance will assist to connect you with valuable services and information to achieve your goals towards community independence. Maybe you have just become an individual with a disability and have no clue of the services available in this county. Contact Self Reliance for information and proper referrals. Medical Equipment Services Medical Equipment Services - What is this? We maintain medical durable equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc for individuals with disabilities. We also receive donations of such equipment if it is in good durable condition. Independence Lab Independence Lab - Thanks to The Verizon Foundation Self Reliance has an accessible computer lab for children, youth, and adults with disabilities to use in your quest for independence. Independence Lab is a model resource center with computer technology accessible to individuals with disabilities. The lab has accessible computer workstations. Equipment includes screen reader software, scan & read, head mouse, erko trackball, and internet access. Consumers may use this lab for job search, to access online applications, housing information, employer websites and more.
