Self Reliance provides other programs and services to individuals and the community at large. These programs and services are determined by the individual and collective needs of consumers and of the community and by the availability of funding, partnerships and collaborations.

Home Modifications/Barrier Removal - in the effort to enable consumers to remain in their homes it is often necessary to make modifications to bathrooms, doorways and provide access with temporary or permanent ramps. Often times a shower, bathtub, sink or kitchen counter is not accessible limiting a person's ability to care fore themselves and live independently. Simple modifications can mean the difference between a consumer remaining in their own home and not being sent to a nursing home. Home modifications/barrier removal funding is provided through Grants and have income, asset, residency and other requirements & limitations.

Emergency Preparedness and Planning - to ensure persons with disabilities are prepared and have a plan for a hurricane evacuation; Self Reliance has been offering training programs and emergency kits for those completing the program. In addition, the special needs shelters are working towards becoming more accessible and communications at the shelter for those who are deaf or hard of hearing are improving. An ongoing part of this project is training to shelter workers relative to assisting persons with disabilities in shelter settings.

Youth Transition - This program focuses on young people transitioning from school to employment, post secondary education, trade schools and independent living.

Please contact Self Reliance Center for Independent Living (CIL) for information and access to services.

Anyone can receive information and referral services and people with disabilities can access services through an intake process. Please contact Self Reliance by telephone, video phone, mail, email or in person to schedule an intake appointment that is convenient for you. There are no charges for services but Funders and Grantors may have income, asset and residency requirements for the services they fund. As an agency of last resort Self Reliance does serve those in most need and have no other means to access programs and services. Some Funders may require documentation of disability and need and any person requesting the purchase and/or repair of durable medical equipment must have a prescription from a medical provider.
